The "Shine On" Award

I am honoured to be nominated for the "Shine On" Award by Michael David Saunders Hall and I'm grateful to him for that. I'm very new to the whole blogging experience and to G+ so I don't know many blogs but I've seen a few good ones and hope to do justice to a deserving group of bloggers. So here goes!

The Rules for Accepting the "Shine On" Award are:

1. Display the award logo on your blog.
2. Link back to the person who nominated you.
3. State 7 things about yourself
4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award and link to them.
5. Notify those bloggers of the nomination and the award requirements.

7 things about me:

1. After completing a postgraduate degree in Sociology I gave up a career in social sciences to become a travel writer. Today, writing is my true passion in life. I'm no poet I just turn my thoughts into words.
2. I'm not a materialist. I believe there are greater joys in life than mere possessions
3. I love travelling and exploring
4. Paris is one of the most romantic places I've seen so far
5. I'm a dreamer and a thinker and I believe dreams have a deeper meaning
6. I hate injustice, deception and liars
7. I'm not a go-getter and I don't strive for things so I often get 'run over' and left behind in this great scheme called life

I would like to nominate the following blogs for the "Shine On" Award:

The Old Stately House

The old stately house on the rolling hills
With its walls of sadness roof of thrills
Stood solemnly still in the northerly wind
That swept away its owners’ sins

The cold stone floors now old and faded
Cracked and mostly housed the rodents
The windows creaked and doors they pleaded
To lonesome spirits that often retreated

Old torn pictures in a cardboard box
Blended old memories grey from the dust
Nameless faces and faceless frames
Hung from walls that once saw fame

The old stately house of a hundred years
They say it birthed a million fears
And melted down a river of tears
That gave it names that hardly cleared

The house of fears muffled in shames
One cold night engulfed in flames
Took tears, secrets, all it contained
They say its glow lit vast terrains

Depression

She sighs
At the threshold of darkness
Taking sips of cold sadness
Looking for the lost warmth of gladness

She cries
For a lost tomorrow
Heart heavy with sorrow
Hiding beneath the depths of a shadow

She slides
Into the limitless pits of despair
Wings of courage torn beyond repair
Whispering a final breath of prayer

She dies
Defeated in a battle with depression
Heart shattered to a million fragments
Taking the hand of sweet cessation

Absence

Sitting on a bed all empty and cold
A thousand recollections vaguely unfold
In a deafening silence feeling so alone
I count the hours till you come home

Birds they chant it is early morn
Another day hath come to scorn
I open my eyes something feels so wrong
I yearn for your laughter sweet and warm

At purple dusk dark shadows they seep
Unto my solitary wakeful retreat
Slumped in a corner so urging to weep
Eyes tightly closed I strive to sleep

How do I cope oh what do I do?
When you’re away I’m sad all blue
Believe me love its nothing but true
My world is in ruins if not for you!

Love's Lapse

The sun breaks in and morn birds sing
Darkness fades yet sorrow stings
A bare bed stares and cruel fate grins
At my bleeding heart and silence that kills

The hands of time creep in weary strides
The hours do weigh like steel they strike
Solitude strangles a heart once blithe
As my mind of plight does cringe with fright

Though far away your voice keeps me sane
And your shadowy face in moments to wane
Trapped in gloom as I solemnly wait
Mutely I whisper sweet hope's name

Love is binding love is might
In its lapse life be dark as night
Yet love is selfish love it spites

An impish sprite you dare not fight
